Whilst all sensible
sailors recognize that we are inherently mad, there may be one or two amongst
us who feel that we have a bit more ‘normality’ to shake off after seeing this
show. A collaboration by Aaron McLlroy,Ben Vos and John van der Ruit could only
end this way – a delightful celebration of Madness!
Although the opening
scenes were a little ‘Monty Pythonesque’, the show soon delivered a completely
unique brand of entertainment. Aaron did what he does best with his loony eyes
and frequent entreaties for selected members of the audience to ‘wake up’ and
Ben is, as usual, larger than life. John seems to be the glue that keeps his
compatriots from flying completely off the handle and his does this with
aplomb.
The show is a little
like sailing in stonking north easterly – the breeze starts off with promise
and ends in a crescendo of delectable chaos !
The second half is
where the fun really sets in with dodgy politicians, homicidal sportsmen and
domineering busybodies coming in for a well-deserved amount of stick. The piece
on the SAP is enough to make you wish you’d braved the loo queue during
interval.
Whilst the laughs
come frequently, watch out for the very clever piece on the invention of the
telephone; during the first half I think.
The performance
played to a full house; something seldom seen at the theatre these days and
culminated in a very well deserved standing ovation.
The comments on the
scramble up the precipitous drive way on the way to the parking were almost as
entertaining as the show; folks were laughing, gasping and panting at the same
time.
I will definitely be
going back with my family and some mates for a second dose of madness.
Other than leaving
the show well entertained the trios antics do remind us that it is in fact the
pursuit of normality that drives us modern beings mad……..
Thanks Sophie me
darlin…….. !

“In mad we trust!”
WHERE: THE ELIZABETH SNEDDON
THEATRE
If you think the weather has been
fraught of late, think again! Baton down the hatches and prepare for seismic
aftershocks when three South African showbiz giants collude in The Rise of The
Insanity League! Joining forces for this hurricane event, due to decimate our
live entertainment front soon, are the perfect storm of irreverent South
African stage, icons whose shared credo is liberally tinged with a healthy
disrespect for authority…They are (in no particular order): Mr Aaron McIlroy
(crazed purveyor of The Loser, The Golfer, DOF, Unplucked, @ Work and other
solo block-busters); along with those outrageous Black Mamba, Green Mamba
dudes, Messrs Ben Voss (whose alter ego, Ms Beauty Ramapelepele, invariably
reduces audiences to tears of mirth), and John van de Ruit, formidably gifted
actor-author of the international best-selling Spud books and the smash hit
movie of the same title, which included McIlroy and Voss in its cast. Together
they are The Insanity League. It is reliably predicted that this lethal
triumvirate of loons will have you screaming with mirth at their no holds
barred, smart, slick, rip-roaring sketch comedy. This is guaranteed to wreak
havoc in its wake, with devastating effects on audiences’ abs.
The Rise of The
Insanity League is directed by London-based SA actor-writer, Greig Coetzee,
multi-award winning creator of White Men With Weapons, Happy Natives, Johnny
Boskak is Feeling Funny and other hits, including many episodes of the TV soap,
